Papilio Education
As the COVID-19 Pandemic was coming to an end, I was looking for a more long term way to impact his community, past The One Island Fund. High school friend, James Burke, and I started Papilio Education, a non-profit that allows high school volunteers to tutor elementary and middle school students most affected by education polarities from the pandemic.

What does Papilio mean¿?
In latin, "Papilio" means butterfly. Caterpillars transform into majestic butterflies, and Papilio works to help students blossom in the same way academically.
02
How does it work¿?
Student volunteers and student's families both submit applications on our website. Tutors and students are paired based on common subjects– for instance, if a student needs help with math and a tutor is strong in that area, they will be paired together. Tutoring sessions are scheduled on a case-by-case basis between each student and tutor to be flexible and are conducted online over Zoom. All sessions are video recorded to ensure online safety.

The Program So Far
In spring 2022, we began the program with tutors and students local to Long Island. Over fall 2022, My partners and I worked to connect with school districts around their respective universities to expand the system. In spring 2023, the hope is to grow with more tutors and students.
